Always been a fan of party rocking- DJ- Mr. Nice, Nick Catchdubs. Especially when he comes in with a nice rolling remix of Flo-Rider & T-pain. Also predicting big tings for his Fools Gold label releasing juke, house, hip hop and general quality freshness.
MC Gringo (originally from Germany) currently seems to be causing a quiet storm right now in the Funk Carioca department. He's officially got to be the only European, Non- Brazilian Funk MC in Rio which is quite a feat if you think about it. No doubting he is 4 real especially when he is getting props from Catra.

The majority of the beats on this mix are quite a bit slower than your usual hyperjacking kuduro BPMs, nodding more to R'n'B, reggae and pop. Not quite sure what to make of this, seems to have someone playing a ringtone along as part of the melody.
Is this because its from Portugal rather than Angola, going down a more commercial road, or is this just less dancefloor orientated strains that I just haven't heard. Or is Kuduro slowing down ?
I used to play Hip Hop back in the day. In the late 90s Me and Dave from Punks Jump Up went to New York on a Ragga-Hip Hop record hunt. We found tonnes of amazing records and I picked up a Bobby Konders mixtape (which I need to rip for you one day) from Rock & Soul which kind of got me into straight dancehall. On that trip I also found the 12" of this classic PR party break which still sounds hot. If you don't know it, here it is...
Mr.Poirier has sent me a cracking mix up of all of his recent carnival bassbin bangers in one handy bite sized mix. Fun for all the family. Except your mum.
The Afro Colombians living in Cartagena and Barranquilla on Colombia's northern carribean coast make Champeta music.Traditionally a mix of African zouk and Tropical latin rhythms, it recently seems to be getting a lo-fi electronic overhawl (read as: RAVE) and is even getting blended with Trance and reggaeton. Don't know if I could listen to it everyday but definitely feeling the DIY aesthetics a la baile funk.
Writing grime song titles is really dull because you always have to write about 43 artist names followed by a tiny song title. Can't they all stick together in bands called Rah or something. I don't mind writing it when the music is this good.
Aftershock have been putting out alot of good records- A few years back they put out hammers like Crazy Titch's first single 'I can see U' which is a classic. Label boss and producer Terror Danjahs beats are getting more crazy by the day and his new album Harddrive vol 1. is tuffer than ever. Some tracks are just mental like his grime version of Planet Rock. But some are literally white hot like this Barrington Levy sampling funster. This is proper grime for 2008. I predict a good year.
Its been a bit slow here at Ghetto Bassquake but i'm going to pick up the pace a bit. Kicking off boring January with some Argentotreats sent to me by Grant from Whats Up Buenos Aires and resident at the Zizek night. They even got live at Zizek podcasts.
Princesa has surely got to blow up this year. Here is a hypnotizin new minimal drumladen remix by Marcelo Fabian.
